National Nutrition Month

March is a great time to improve your health. Not only is the weather getting warmer, but it is National Nutrition Month, which is a campaign established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. During this month everyone is encouraged to build healthier eating and lifestyle habits. The theme for this year is “Discover the Power of Nutrition.”

Here are some practical tips that can help power your day:

  • Focus on Healthy Eating
  • Stay Hydrated.
  • Get Physically Active
  • Eat a healthy breakfast. Make sure to include at least three food groups. Try including lean protein, whole grains, and a combination of fruits and vegetables.
  • Add more fruit and vegetables to every meal. When doing so, focus on colorful produce. You can use fresh, frozen, or canned. When using canned, select produce in 100% natural juices.
  • Include protein. Try healthy sources such as eggs, beans, fish, lean chicken, and nuts and seeds. Try mixing plant and animal proteins throughout the week.
  • Coose snacks that will provide nourishment to the body. They can be eaten throughout the day to keep you full and nourished longer. Try a new healthy recipe.
  • Drink water with every meal
  • Flavor water with fruits and vegetables instead of sugary drinks.
  • Start slowly and increase gradually
  • Choose a variety of different exercises
  • Include exercise as part of your daily schedule
