Respect is the foundation of positive relationships and a strong 4-H community. It means treating others the way you want to be treated and valuing differences in opinions, backgrounds, and abilities. What does Respect look like?
Forests regulate our climate, clean the air we breathe, and filter the water we drink. They also provide habitat for more than two-thirds of terrestrial wildlife and plants. Forests help prevent erosion and enrich and conserve soil, helping to protect communities from floods and landslides, and produce rich topsoil needed to grow plants and crops. Forests play an important role in the global water cycle, moving water across the earth by releasing water vapor and capturing rainfall. They also filter out pollution and chemicals, improving the quality of water available for human use. They are our most important resources, offering a renewable supply of the materials and goods we need for a more sustainable future.
