EBR Master Gardeners present fall vegetable gardening, cool-season flowers Sept. 25 at the Jones Creek Regional Branch Library

(09/09/25) BATON ROUGE, La. — On Thursday, Sept. 25, the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners Association will present two timely programs: fall vegetable gardening and cool-season flowers. These will be held at the Jones Creek Regional Branch Library, 6222 Jones Creek Road.

It’s past time to pull up those old vegetable plants from the spring if you haven’t already done so. Master Gardener David Breaux will take you through the steps of cleaning out your old stuff, preparing your beds for the new season and helping you choose the best plants to grow in the Baton Rouge area.

Breaux is a retired electrical engineer with a passion for gardening. He has grown vegetables in his backyard for many years and currently helps with the kitchen garden at the LSU Rural Life Museum at Burden Museum & Gardens. He will tell you about the plants he has had the most success with and will mention others that should do well.

After 23 years of teaching history, Master Gardener Kathy Morris left to pursue a career that entailed a lot of field work on undeveloped land. As part of this job, she had to learn a lot about plants, which led to a plant identification class at LSU and, eventually, Master Gardener training.

Morris would love to teach you about the many plants that she knows will thrive in our fall climate and some that will even survive our winter temperatures and bloom all spring.

The presentation will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
