Mike Burns devoted his life to Louisiana 4-H, serving as a club leader, state staff member, volunteer, and mentor for decades. His greatest legacy lies in Outdoor Skills and Shooting Sports. Mike helped found Louisiana’s Shooting Sports program in the early 1990s, becoming the only Level 3 Instructor in the state. His leadership elevated this program into the state’s largest project area. He led training across parish, state, and national levels, and was instrumental in creating “Wildwoods Wonderings,” a state outdoor camp. As 4-H Camp Manager at Grant Walker, Mike impacted thousands of youth. After retiring from the AgCenter, he continued as a rifle coach and program leader in Grant Parish, donating personal funds for equipment and supplies. He mentored youth with a focus on firearm safety and sportsmanship. Mike’s unwavering passion, generosity, and commitment to youth leadership have left a profound and lasting impact on Louisiana 4-H.
