LaHouse Storm-ready Saturday set for July 26

(07/01/25) BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU AgCenter LaHouse Research and Education Center will host its Storm-ready Saturday Open House on July 26 from 9 a.m. to noon for families to learn more about emergency preparedness before the start of hurricane season.

“Whether you're a new homeowner or a seasoned DIYer, this event will leave you better prepared and more confident in your home's storm readiness,” said Pam Lewandowski, LaHouse manager of training.

Participants can expect:

  • Expert advice: Speak one-on-one with building science professionals and home improvement experts about your specific concerns.
  • Displays and demonstrations: Learn practical steps to strengthen your home against hurricanes and severe weather.
  • Family fun: Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt and take home their very own Home Helper Checklist to get involved in keeping their family safe.

LaHouse has over 250 exhibits and displays that demonstrate techniques and solutions for resilient, sustainable and healthy homes along the Gulf region. Topics include hurricane preparedness, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and integrated pest management.

Visitors can explore the house and take advantage of free publications and resources from the AgCenter.

LaHouse is also open for self-guided tours Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located off Nicholson Drive at 3622 Gourrier Ave., across from Alex Box Baseball Stadium in Baton Rouge.
