EBR Master Gardeners presents Summer Survival in the Garden and Gardening with the Disabled, Children and Elderly

(5/30/25) BATON ROUGE, La. — Summer Survival in the Garden and Gardening with the Disabled, Children and the Elderly will be the topics presented by the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners on Thursday, June 12, at the Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road.

Master Gardener Ken Irby will show ways to make it easier for you as well as your plants to thrive in our high temperatures. Some plants can even take on drought conditions, while others love the humidity and the occasional abundance of rain. There are also techniques to keep plants alive that will be easier for the gardener.

Children, the elderly and the disabled all love working with plants, but there are many precautions to take when working with them in the garden. Master Gardener Lyn Hakeem has worked in gardens with these different groups and will give advice on things you should be aware of. Hakeem began doing research on gardens in the education curriculum while an undergraduate at Southern University and would love to share what she has learned.

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
