Are you a middle schooler passionate about wildlife, conservation, and the environment? The National 4-H Wildlife Habitat Educational Program (WHEP) is offering an exciting opportunity to join a team and dive into the world of wildlife management, habitat preservation, and environmental stewardship.
The WHEP program is designed to teach youth the fundamentals of wildlife and fisheries science and management. What parents should know about camp!
Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. It’s a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, gain independence, get along with others, and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. One of the most important things children learn from camp is self-sufficiency. That is, they learn they can survive for four days on their own. To help our campers learn self-sufficiency, parents are asked not to call or visit campers unless there is an emergency. Campers may not bring cell phones or electronic devices to camp. The camp week consists of four days, beginning on Monday afternoon when the campers arrive at camp and ending on Thursday morning after breakfast. 4-H Agents, volunteer leaders, and junior counselors from each parish attend camp and stay in the cabins with the campers.

Last month’s mystery item was milk. We learned that milk is referred to as nature’s perfect food because it contains almost every element needed in human diets—calcium, protein, minerals and vitamins. Also, we made homemade butter and got to taste it! Our March lesson will continue to reinforce the importance of agriculture in Louisiana. This month’s mystery item is a member of the rose family. This food is usually red but can also be yellow or white. It is a fruit and has seeds on the outside. Can you guess what it is?
