Teens who attend the Clover College portion of 4-H University can choose specific tracks focusing on possible future careers. The Aviation Experience option gives participants the chance to explore real planes as well as simulators.
The various 4-H educational events and opportunities can take many forms — competitive or not, cooperative or individual. One peak event for Louisiana 4-H participants is 4-H University, where youth ages 13-19 gather at Louisiana State University to engage in diverse opportunities for mastering their subjects of interest. 4-H University is heavily grounded in the competitive, individual learning realm. However, the noncompetitive Clover College program is a subset that has served as a complement and alternative for young people not interested in competition.
Clover College offers an active way for young people to gain in-depth knowledge of topics and careers that ignite their passions and inform their career path decisions. Whether it’s exploring turfgrass and sports, solving forensic problems, learning about veterinary science, building robots, or experiencing aviation through flight simulation, youth are afforded these and many more unique experiences exposing them to industry and educators.
As Clover College enters its 21st year, it has remained fundamentally true to the original premise to provide youth with the chance to gain knowledge and mastery in specific subject areas without the pressure of competition. While there have changes over the years, it remains a sound opportunity for youth to explore their career interests.
Clover College is a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn what it takes to succeed and thrive, making them beyond ready to excel. This program not only equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to actualize their future careers, but also instills a sense of confidence and readiness to face the challenges ahead and to make a difference.
