LSU AgCenter researchers slated to speak at Midsouth multi-conference event

(12/17/24) BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU AgCenter experts will be featured speakers during a national multi-conference event, Jan. 27 and 28 in East Memphis, Tennessee. The conferences include the National Conservation Systems Cotton and Rice, Southern Soybean and Corn, Delta States Irrigation and the Southern Precision Ag Conferences.

The conference will mark the 28th year that LSU AgCenter along with six other Midsouth universities have co-sponsored these conferences. The other universities are Auburn University, Mississippi State University, University of Arkansas, University of Missouri, University of Tennessee and Texas A&M University.

LSU AgCenter speakers include Ronnie Levy, state rice specialist; Boyd Padgett, plant pathologist; Rasel Parvej, soil fertility specialist and Connor Webster, rice extension weed specialist. Other speakers from Louisiana are farmer Kody Beavers and certified crop advisors Josh Copes, Hank Jones, Tim White and B. Rogers Leonard.

The keynote speaker Jim Wiesemeyer, who serves as a Washington analyst for Pro Farmer and Farm Journal and contributes daily to the Pro Farmer website at profarmer.com. He also participates in Farm Journal’s Agri-Talk radio program. He will provide the latest information on agricultural policy and trade development.

Topics covered during the conferences include major crops updates, soil health, regenerative agriculture, pest management, precision agriculture and 14 presentations on irrigation.

Six round table breakout sessions are on the agenda and subject areas include soil test and health, soil moisture sensors, drones and regenerative cotton. Certified crop advisors can choose from more than 70 continuing education courses in various disciplines.

“The conference is a gathering of the most knowledgeable researchers and specialists in the Midsouth states, and highly productive farmers who produce cotton, rice, soybeans and corn,” steering committee chair John LaRose Jr., said. “This conference has the reputation as being the No. 1 place in the United States where all producers can learn the latest agriculture production methods and techniques being utilized by leading agriculture farmers, researchers and the ag industry.”
