The 2024-2025 Achievement Day Theme is Break New Ground with 4-H. The theme was created by Harper LeBlanc from Rayne Catholic. Harper will receive a monetary award at Achievement Day. Congratulations!
Our second Commodity Cookery Contest will be held on December 9, 2024. This will include the Sugar Cookery and the Seafood Cookery Contests.
Commodity Cookery Rules & Regulations (All Grades): Doors will open at 7:30am. for those who have school that day. Others may bring their dishes at 8:30am. Dishes may be dropped off by a parent, and you do not have to be present to receive an award. Judging will begin at 9:00 AM. Once judging begins, no late dishes will be accepted. ALL participants must submit their recipe at the time of entry with category, division, name, grade and school club on the back of the recipe. Only one copy of the recipe (neatly handwritten or typed) is required. Each participant may ONLY ENTER ONE DISH IN EACH COMMODITY SUBCATEGORY. For example, you may enter a dish in Sugar Baked Items and one in Sugar Other Dessert, but NOT two in Sugar Other Dessert. Remember, dishes must be prepared at home. Each dish must be chilled on ice to 40° or lower (even cakes and cookies), plated in a disposable container and brought to the contest in an ice chest accompanied with ICE, or they will be disqualified. No place mats, serving utensils or flower arrangements, etc. will be accepted. NOTE: only 3-4 servings of the dish must be plated at the contest. For example, if the recipe states that it serves six, only three servings should be displayed but your recipe must state the entire serving size.
Sugar Cookery:Recipe must include at least one cup of sugar which includes raw, brown, powdered & granulated sugars only. Divisions: Baked items (bread, cakes, pies, cookies, etc.) and Other Dessert (candies, icebox pies, ice cream, etc. Homemade jams, jellies and preserves or raw eggs are NOT accepted entries).
Seafood Cookery:The dish must use at least one (1) cup of seafood. The seafood must be fresh, frozen, pasteurized or dried. Canned seafood is not acceptable. Surimi, an artificial crab made from fish, cannot be used. There can be no raw seafood in the final dish. Entries in categories 1 -5 may contain a small amount of a second seafood but not more than ½ of the amount of the primary seafood. For example, a recipe could contain one cup of crab as the primary seafood and ½ cup of shrimp as the secondary seafood. The Seafood Cookery offers five divisions: Shrimp, Crawfish. Oyster, Fish/Non-Traditional, Crab. First place winners will be invited to participate in the Regional Cookery Contest on March 24, 2025 in Crowley.
This is a fun activity open to all 4-H members. It will be held at the Crowley Rice Arena located at 159 Cherokee Drive Crowley, LA on Monday, January 13, 2025. One dog per participant (may choose to take part in 2 categories). In the event you are not a dog owner, you are allowed to show a neighbor or close friend's dog! Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:00 p.m. This is a dog ONLY contest. Do not bring dogs that are too big or too aggressive for the 4-H'ers to handle. All animals MUST be vaccinated and restrained on a leash. Only dog 4-H exhibitors will be allowed in the arena. This year's categories are Best Dressed, Owner Pet Look Alike, Waggiest Tail, Highest Jumper, Most Obedient, and Best Bark. Disclaimer: your dog will be in close proximity to other dogs, so be mindful of your dog’s temperament.
We will also have the Vet Set Geaux contest happening at the same time. This contest includes identifying breeds of dogs, cats, birds, etc. It also requires knowledge of pet care.
The 4-H State Food and Fitness Board wants you! Come and join in on this fun day camp for cooking, games, mindfulness and more! This camp will take place on January 14, 2025, in Baton Rouge at the 4-H Mini Farm on LSU Campus from 10 am to 3 pm. This camp is open to 4th-6th graders and costs $35 to attend. Registration is open now through 4HOnline and will close on January 7, 2025. Transportation not provided for this camp.

We are once again offering horse clinics this year for FREE! This year Acadia parish will be offering horse clinics every month! We will again team up with master horsemen throughout the region. Clinics will be held at the Acadia Parish Rice Arena on December 30th from 6-8 PM. In order to attended youth must be an approved 4-H member AND bring your own horse. All livestock entries for the parish and district shows are due by December 6th via the FairEntry site. Don't forget to register for showmanship through FairEntry! If you are showing a registered animal and you submitted a pending paper form, just a reminder that the official registration paper is due to the 4-H office by December 11th for all animals with possession dates in November. Swine entries will have 30 days past their possession/validation date to turn in official registration papers.If you are showing livestock this year and have not entered any animals in 4-H online, and it is past the possession/validation date for that animal, please call the 4-H office ASAP!!!

Acadia Parish will be piloting a Primer Exhibitor Contest! The Premier Exhibitor Program is designed to place emphasis and recognition on the exhibitor’s knowledge and skills in 4-H and National FFA Organization livestock projects. The program provides additional awards and recognition to all exhibitors at the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show. The primer exhibitor contest is optional to participate in, but you must exhibit the species you wish to compete in.
The Parish Priemer Exhibitor Contest will be held Monday January 6, 2025, at the 4-H Office from 1:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m.
-All exhibitors interested in participating in the Acadia Parish premier exhibitor contest must register through 4-H Online by December 13, 2024. Only senior level exhibitors are eligible to compete (Grades 9-12). Premier Exhibitor Programs are available for beef, dairy, poultry, sheep, swine and goats. An exhibitor may compete in one or more Premier Exhibitor Programs provided they exhibit a qualified animal at the Acadia Parish Livestock Show. A cash prize will be presented to the top three exhibitors in each species. Placings will be announced during each species show (see show schedule) Resource lists can be found on the LSU AgCenter Website, under Premier Exhibitor species handouts, or you can contact the 4-H Office (337) 788-8821 to check-out copies of study materials.
Attending college can be expensive. There are many opportunities for you to start saving money to attend. One way is through scholarships. There are several scholarships for which you may apply that will be awarded this year. Scholarships available are: Scott Tractor, Parish Livestock Show, District Livestock Show and several through the State 4-H Foundation. An email will be sent to all eligible seniors about the scholarship opportunities.
This year in an effort to recognize4-H members who are graduating, Louisiana 4-H will offer a "4-H Honor Cord." For 4-H members to receive the 4-H Honor Cord, they must meet the following requirements: 1) must be enrolled in 4-H; 2) must be a graduating senior; 3) have been enrolled in 4-H for 3 high school years; 4) have participated in one state sponsored 4-H program in the last 3 years or show exemplary parish involvement; 5) must fill out an application form and turn it in by parish deadline date of February 7, 2025. All Senior Honor Cord recipients will be invited to the end of the year 4-H Outstanding Member Banquet. The application can be found at Senior Honor Cords (lsuagcenter.com)
We would like to thank everyone who has signed up for this year’s Acadia 4-H Shooting Sports. Hunters Education certification by December 31, 2024, is mandatory for all participants! In order to continue practicing after December 31, 2024, proof of Hunter Safety Certification must be submitted. Those registered for the January course can return to practices after certification.4-H Southern Regional match will be March 14-23, 2025. In order to compete, youth must have eight hours of official practice time. Each participant is required to furnish their own ammunition. Parish equipment must be signed out from the office during business hours.
Join us on Monday, January 20th for a teen sewing class! Students will take upcycling to a new level. They will take an ordinary sweatshirt and create a one-of-a-kind trendy piece that will have everyone asking where you got it from!!!!
Students will need to bring in their own plain sweatshirt (in their size and crewneck only) they will want to upcycle. Design options are endless but within ease and ability of you! See some inspirational pictures below! No sewing experience required! This class is open to 4-H members in grades 8-12th. This class will take place at the 4-H office from 9am-12pm and will cost $10 to attend. Registration is through 4HOnline and spots are limited! Registration opens December 9th.
