Fundraiser Pickups

Nov. 19-20!!!

Our Annual Ascension 4-H Sweet Potato & Bergeron’s Peeled Pecan halves fundraiser pickups are here in time for the holidays! Pickups are at the 4-H Office on Nov. 19th & 20th between 8:00 am and 5 pm. Orders not picked up after the 20th will be resold- we do not want the products in our office for the holiday! If you have any questions or need to make special arrangements for pickups, please call the 4-H Extension Office!


Hands to Larger Service!

November is the month of giving! Pledge your Hands to Larger Service by helping in one of two ways!

1. Donate to a Canned Food or Non-perishable Items Drive. See your club leader to organize something OR help with an already existing drive at your school!

2. Sock It To Me- Give a new pair of socks to provide an infant, child or adult this holiday season. Our office and several schools will be collection sites through December 6th. This drive is through Family Resource Group and Baton Rouge Parents Magazine. Donations will be made locally! Commit to helping your neighbors!


4-H BINGO Contest!

Enrolled Ascension 4-H members are eligible to participate in the 4-H BINGO and BLACKOUT contests!

The first 10 students to receive BLACKOUT will receive a prize. Contact our office for a BINGO card if you don’t have one from September meetings. Full rules can also be found on our website.


November and December Contest Time!

November and December bring several different contest opportunities! The decorated cookie contest and the 4-H poster Contents! Ask your club leaders for rules and deadlines for both! After competing at school, your posters can also be submitted to the Demo Day Competition on January 17th! The Demo Day poster rules are posted on at www.lsuagcenter.com/ascension4h under Contests>Demo Day. More detailed info on Demo Day to come next month!


Spark | Action | Change Summit- 7th-8th Graders

Louisiana 4-H is excited to announce the inaugural Spark ▪ Action ▪ Change |Summit, an immersive 3-day event designed to engage and inspire 7th and 8th grade 4-H youth with a keen interest in government relations, volunteering/service, and personal development. This summit aims to provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment where participants can deepen their understanding of civic engagement, refine their leadership skills, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Through a series of hands-on educational workshops, engaging tours, and collaborative service projects, youth will have the opportunity to explore critical aspects of civic education, public service, and personal growth. The event will take place February 20-22, 2025, at the Lod Cook Conference Center, LSU Baton Rouge. Cost: $125 per participant. Registration on 4-H Online will be open until all spots have been filled on a first come, first served basis.


State Shooting Sports Camp

The Shooting Camp will be held December 6-8, 2024, at the Grant Walker Educational Facility. The camp is open to 4-H Youth ages 9-13 years old. Participants will choose one of the following: Archery, Shotgun, .22 Rifle or Air Rifle/Air Pistol/BB (Combined). Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend but it is not mandatory. The cost will be $130 per youth/per adult which will cover registration, lodging, meals and t-shirt. All youth will be required to bring their own bow/firearm and arrows/ammo. LSU AgCenter policy requires all adults attending an overnight event with youth have to complete our overnight chaperone training and screening process.

Deadline to register for this camp in 4-H Online is November 18. Contact our office for more information.


LSU 4-H & FFA Bayou Bash

Hey, Fighting Tiger Fans! Join us for the LA 4-H, FFA, & LSU COA Bayou Bash Tiger Tailgate and watch the Tigers take on Vanderbilt. The event will take place on Saturday, November 23. Limited seating and pre-tailgate registration is required. Visit our website under “Events” for the registration link, shirt sales, ticket orders, and details. Scan the QR codes in the fliers for registration sites.


Cookery Contest- November Poultry & December Sugar

We are super excited to get our second cookery contest kicked off with the Poultry Cookery! Be mindful all contests have had adjustments made so read the guidelines carefully! For each of our monthly contest entries, you will need to submit 2 copies of your recipe and 1-2 servings of your dish in a disposable container. You can earn extra points by submitting pictures of the before (ingredients), during preparation (action shots), and after (finished product) you have completed your dish and a short summary about your experience of cooking the dish. All of these extra components can be emailed to Ms. Sarah. The drop off day for completed dishes are from 8 am to 5:30pm on the date listed. From there, your entries will be judged by our volunteers. More detailed guidelines and explanations will be available soon on our website at lsuagcenter.com/ascension4-H!

4-H Night with the Pelicans

Enjoy a fun filled night with the New Orleans Pelicans and 4-H on January 17th! The Pelicans will be playing the Utah Jazz and tip off will be at 7:00pm. All tickets for this 4-H game need to be purchased by December 9th. Tickets and parking passes can be purchased on an individual basis or as a group order. What’s Included with each ticket purchase:

● Pelican promotion item on the night of the game is TBA.

● Pelicans T-shirt – Given out at the Pregame Tailgate Party 4:00pm-5:15pm and at the Group Sales Center outside of section 114 6:00PM until half time. Sizes based on availability.

● A portion of the ticket sale proceeds will benefit 4-H Foundation

● Parish that sells the most tickets each 4-H Member from that Parish will receive a New Orleans Pelicans Swag Item (given to parish Agent or designated adult at the game to give out to 4-H Members)


Jr. Leader Project Club- 7th - 12th Grades

The Ascension 4-H Jr. Leader Project Club is open to all 7th-12th grade Ascension 4-H members. Jr. Leaders focus on leadership, citizenship, and teamwork. The service-learning theme chosen by the members will be related to animals. The cost to join the Jr. Leader Club is $10.00. The third meeting is November 20th, at 6 pm at the office! Livestock News

If you are planning to participate in the LSU AgCenter Livestock Shows and have not contacted the Ascension Parish Office to let them know your intentions of showing, please do so ASAP as important forms and information will be sent out to livestock exhibitors very soon.

Important Livestock Dates:

November 11th- Possession deadline and market/commercial validations due for beef, dairy, sheep, exhibition poultry & goat- Animals must be entered into 4-H online by this deadline.

November 18th- Mini Beef possession deadline

November 22nd – YQCA Deadline for all species. Possession Deadline and market/commercial validation due for swine

November 22nd- Entries and Fees due for rabbits, poultry, sheep, swine, goats, beef, & dairy


Graduating Seniors- Honor Cords

Don’t forget to apply to get your Honor Cords to wear while walking at your high school graduation! You have worked hard during your 4-H career so wear your honor cord PROUDLY! Guidelines and applications are available and must be submitted online at Senior Honor Cords (lsuagcenter.com). It takes less than 5 minutes to complete! Applications are due by February 7th! The cords will be sent to the Ascension Extension Office and given at Achievement Day. More info can be found on our website under awards/applications.
