01. November Club Challenge
Join us in collecting items that will be donated to the St. John Ministry of Care as part of their Thanksgiving Food Drive. They have asked for specific non-perishable items that you can find below. All items will be picked up on November 8, 2024.

02. Fall Commodity Sale
Be sure to order your Louisiana-grown sweet potatoes, pecans, and satsumas. The deadline to order sweet potatoes and pecans is Friday, November 1 and all satsuma order are due Monday, November 11.

03. Veterans Cards
On November 11 of each year, the nation honors all living military veterans. Veterans are people who have served in any branch of the United States Military, such as the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, and Space Force.
To honor the brave men and women who have fought for this country, the St. John Parish 4-H Program will ask 4-H members to write thank you cards to be delivered to the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home in Reserve. See below guidelines for cards:
- Open to all 4-H members and Cloverbud members
- No glitter can be used.
- Cannot use larger than an 8.5x11 in. sheet of paper.
All cards will be picked up at each school on Friday, November 8
04. Broiler Chick Orders
Raising young meat-type chickens (broilers) is one of the most interesting and fun-filled activities a 4-H’er can experience. Youth receive the chicks at 1-2 days old and raise them for 42 days. This is a great project for families who live within city limits and subdivisions where space on the property may be limited.
If you are interested in participating in the Broiler Project, all orders must be received by November 22, 2024, at the St. John Parish 4-H Office. 05. Shooting Sports Camp
4-H members ages 9 through 13 and interesting in Shooting Sports, consider attending the 4-H Shooting Sports Camp that will be held December 6-8, 2024, at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA.
Youth who attend the camp will choose from the following disciplines to participate in: Archery, Shotgun, .22 Rifle, or Air Pistol/Air Rifle/BB Gun (Combined).
Parents/Guardians are welcome to attend, but it is not mandatory. The cost will be $130 per youth/adult, which will cover registration, lodging, meals, and a T-shirt. All youth will be required to bring their own bow/firearm and arrows/ammo.
The deadline to register for the camp is November 18, 2024.
Note: If parents/guardians are also attending the camp, they must complete the overnight chaperone training and screening process.

06. Fashion & Beyond on Tour
The 4-H Fashion Board would like to invite 5th – 12th graders to come to experience the Fashion & Beyond on Tour. You will get a closer look at all aspects of the fashion world, from newspaper runways, color wheels, upcycling, fibers, to basic sewing fundamentals. You will engage in multiple activities
planned by the fabulous fashion board.
Fashion & Beyond on Tour will take place on February 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Acadia Parish Educational Center in Crowley, LA. The cost to participate is $35/person. There are a limited number of spots available for this event; therefore, if you are interested in participating, complete the registration form by December 6, 2024

07. Holiday Wreath Decorating Contest
Spread holiday cheer and participate in the St. John the Baptist 4-H Holiday Wreath Decorating Contest.
RULES:
- Can be by an individual 4-H member or a group of 4-H members.
- Wreaths must be made by 4-H members. BE CREATIVE
- The wreath size should be 12 to 20 inches.
-
NO
pre-made wreaths are allowed. You may use pre-made base.
- Include
your name(s), school, & grade level on a card attached to the back of the
wreath.
- “4-H”
and the four-leaf clover should be located on the front of the wreath. Wreaths
will be judged on creativity, neatness in construction, and above guidelines.
- Fresh
green plant materials MAY be
used. If these materials are not fresh and leaves are falling off stems, the
wreath will not be judged.
- Fresh
flowers, real berries, food, candy, glass, or dangerous decorations should not
be used on the wreath. Wreaths with these types of decorations will not be
judged and will not be donated.
- Foam,
garland rings, or wire frames may be used as foundations for the wreath. All
other decorations must be natural, reused, recycled, or homemade.
All wreaths will be donated to the following locations based on the theme of the wreath:
- Patriotism - Veterans Home
- All others - Local nursing homes

08. 4-H Night with the Pelicans
The annual 4-H Night with the Pelicans will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025! This is an opportunity for 4-H’ers, their families, and friends to enjoy and cheer on the New Orleans Pelicans and get exclusive access to many perks.

FAN EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES
- Pregame Tailgate Party - Arrive at the Smoothie King at 4:00 p.m. to participate in the pregame tailgate party located on the Smoothie King Center Concourse. MUST HAVE A VALID TICKET PURCHASED THROUGH 4-H TO PARTICIPATE
- Baseline Pelicans – Select members of 4-H will get an exclusive on-floor view of the Pelicans’ pregame shoot-around. (20 person max) Complete the Fan Experience sign-up form by December 20, 2024, to be entered into the drawing.
- Pregame Fan Tunnel – Select members of 4-H will form a tunnel as the Pelicans team enters the court. You can high-five the pros! (30 person max) Complete the Fan Experience sign-up by December 20, 2024, to be entered into the drawing.
- Anthem Buddies – Twelve kids from 4-H will stand tall in front of the Pelicans basketball team during the National Anthem Performance. Must be 12 years or younger. (12 person max) Complete the Fan Experience sign-up form by December 20, 2024, to be entered into the drawing.
- Game Ball Presentation - ne 4-H member will be recognized on the court at the start of the game while presenting the game ball with players from both teams. This is during the tip-off of the game. Complete the Fan Experience sign-up form by December 20, 2024, to be entered into the drawing.

- Pelican promotion item on the night of the game
- Pelicans t-shirt – Given out at the Pregame Tailgate Party 4:00pm-5:15pm and at the Group Sales Center outside of section 114 6:00PM until half time. Sizes are based on availability.

09. Get the Picture Contest
The Get the Picture Contest is a photography contest for all St. John Parish 4-H members. This contest aims to encourage 4-H members to use photography as a meaningful and expressive communication tool, develop life skills in communication and expressive arts, and provide 4-H members a platform to display their skills and passion for photography.
Each month will feature a different theme. This month’s theme is People I am Grateful for. All pictures are due by December 6, 2024. For list of rules and to submit online visit the website or scan the QR Code below.

11. 4-H Food Challenge
The Louisiana 4-H Food Challenge competition which challenges teams of 4-H members to create a dish using only a key ingredient and access to a “grocery store” of other ingredients. From the ingredients, team members are challenged to create a healthy dish while practicing proper food safety, food preparation, and communication skills. Following the dish preparation, teams then present to a panel of judges who will further test their culinary and nutrition knowledge with a question-and-answer segment.
STATE CONTEST DATE & LOCATION:
Wednesday, March 12, 2025 – State Evacuation Shelter, Alexandria, LA
AGE DIVISIONS:
- Division 1: 4th-6th graders
- Division 2: 7th-8th graders
- Division 3: 9th-12th graders
CONTEST ELIGIBILITY:
- St. John Parish 4-H is permitted to enter TWO (2) TEAMS PER DIVISION
- Must be an enrolled 4-H member
- Each team must consist of 3-4 members
Spots will be given on a first-come first-serve basis.
12. Louisiana 4-H Day of Service
“…I pledge my hands to larger service…” Dec. 7, 2024,
is Louisiana 4-H Day of Service, and we are asking you to participate by
conducting a service project that benefits your community. If you are not able
to participate on Dec. 7, know any service project conducted during the month
of December can count as part of Louisiana 4-H Day of Service. If your club is
conducting a project, be sure to let Mr. Xavier know.
