(09/30/24) BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction is now accepting nominations for its annual induction ceremony, which will be held March 6 in Baton Rouge.
The nomination form can be obtained online at www.louisianaagriculturehallofdistinction.com or through any parish LSU AgCenter office. The deadline for receiving nominations is Nov. 18.
The Hall of Distinction is a cooperative effort of the Louisiana Radio Network, LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. It recognizes individuals who have had a profound effect on Louisiana agriculture or agricultural enterprises. Nominees can represent any area of agriculture or agriculture-related industries, including farming, ranching, aquaculture, fisheries, education and agribusiness.
“Our agriculture industry provides us with so much,” said Matt Lee, LSU vice president for agriculture and dean of the College of Agriculture. “People engaged in agriculture do so with great risk, and this event helps recognize those people that are willing to take that risk so that we may have the food and fiber we need to live comfortably.”
The three individuals inducted in 2024 were Ralph Abraham, a former veterinarian, U.S. congressman and current Louisiana surgeon general, from Archibald; former LSU AgCenter weed scientist and crop consultant Steve Crawford, who is a native of Sicily Island; and Leodrey Williams, who served as the chancellor of the Southern University Agricultural Research Center from 2001 to 2015 and is a resident of Baker.
Since its inception, 34 individuals have been inducted into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction.
