(09/17/24) BATON ROUGE, La. — Composting and preparing for winter are the two timely topics the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners will present on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Zachary Branch Library, 1900 Church Street.
You may have already started raking those leaves and wondering what to do with them. Master Gardener Bob Dillemuth will teach you how to turn those leaves and many more things into the best soil additive you can’t buy.
Composting is a wonderful way to take what would end up in a landfill and use it to enrich your own flower beds. Dillemuth has a broad range of garden and horticultural interests including using native plants, sustainable gardening, gardening for wildlife, maintaining plant diversity and garden design.
The second presenter is Advanced Master Gardener Leo Broders. Born and raised in New Orleans, he has had a love of horticulture from an early age.
Everyone hates to see their favorite plant destroyed by freezing temperatures, and you may remember all the weeds that took over your lawn last spring. Broders will share with you the many things you can do to get your lawn and garden safely through this winter and ready for reemergence in the spring.
The program will begin at 6:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
