Art Contest
The Art Contest is a new 4-H contest for Caldwell 4-H members. Creating art strengthens problem solving and decision making skills, encourages inventiveness, and helps develop communication and fine motor skills. Entries for the Caldwell 4-H Art Contest are due by 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 20. Entries will not be accepted after this date.
Categories are:
- Drawing using pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, or pastel
- Painting using acrylic, oil, or watercolor
- Scratch board
- Spray art (2 dimensional, flat)
- Mixed media (2 dimensional, flat)
Subject matter can be portrait, still life, landscape, or abstract. Contest divisions are Grades 4 and 5, Grades 6 to 8, and Grades 9 to 12. All entries must be created by the 4-H member and made within the past year, September 2023 to present.
Members may submit only one entry per category. All paintings must be dry. Wet paintings will not be accepted for this contest. No entries larger than 16 inches by 20 inches will be accepted. All entries must be framed or matted and ready for hanging with wire or hook on back. Pencil, charcoal, and pastels should be protected by glass or clear plastic film.
Entries must have name, age, school, grade, address, birthdate, category and media that was used, and subject matter written on a piece of paper or index card, and attached to the back of the entry. Entries winning first, second, and third place will be submitted as entries for the Arts and Crafts Exhibit at the Ark-La-Miss Fair in West Monroe.
Leaf Identification Contest
- Entries are due to the 4-H office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25.
- Entries submitted after October 25 will not be eligible for cash prizes.
- Submit a binder of 15 pages of leaves, one leaf per page, which have been collected during the current school year.
- Leaves must be from trees or shrubs.
- Tape each leaf on a separate piece of construction or copy paper and identify the leaf using a pen or marker. Be specific when identifying leaves. For example, if a leaf is from a Live Oak tree, write Live Oak on the page, not just Oak. If the leaf is from a Bald Cypress tree, write Bald Cypress, not just Cypress.
- Write your name, school, and grade on the front cover of your binder.
Life Skills: Laundry
Laundry is a life skill needed by everyone. Taking care of your clothing protects your investment in your wardrobe, is good hygiene, and keeps clothes looking and smelling good. Whether you are home, in an apartment or traveling, there are options for "doing" laundry. Laundry care steps include sorting, pre-treating stains, washing, drying, storing.
Healthy Living: Establish a Routine That Works for You
Mental health impacts absolutely every area of your life, which is why it is so important to establish a routine to help ensure that you are doing something to put yourself first every single day. This could come in the form of a workout, taking a long walk, meditating, or writing in a journal. Do whatever it is that allows you to feel like your most authentic self throughout every day.
