To streamline and make all 4-H families aware of the many recognition opportunities. We have established a list of awards and recognition opportunities available to 4-H members and 4-H Clubs.

Individual Awards and Recognition Opportunities

Name of Award or Recognition

How to Receive

Outstanding 4-H Member

Each 4-H Club is allowed to recognize one (1) 4-H member to receive this award. Club Leaders select a member who has shown outstanding work this year in 4-H and demonstrates what it means to be a leader at your school.

Top Elementary 4-H’er

4-H members in grades 4th-6th qualify for this award, and it is based on a point system. Points are given by participation in 4-H activities within the school club and on the parish, regional, and state levels.

Top Middle School 4‑H’er

4-H members in grades 7th – 8th qualify for this award, and it is based on a point system. Points are given by participation in 4-H activities within the school club and on the parish, regional, and state levels.

Top High School 4-H’er

4-H members in grades 9th – 12th qualify for this award, and it is based on a point system. Points are given by participation in 4-H activities within the school club and on the parish, regional, and state levels.

Senior Honor Cord

Graduating seniors can apply for a 4-H honor cord that can be worn during their commencement exercises.

Community Service Award

4-H members who complete service on behalf of 4-H can qualify for this award. Service activities can be conducted within their school club and/or individual. Must complete an application to be considered for this award.

Emerald Achievement Award

The Emerald Achievement Award is awarded to 4-H’ers who are 15 years of age and older, have been in 4-H for at least three (3) years (including this year), and have been involved in 4-H Junior Leaders in previous years. To receive this award, 4-H members must complete an application and submit it to the 4-H Office.

Golden Clover Award

The Gold Clover Award is awarded to 4-H’ers who are 14 years of age and younger and have been in 4-H for at least two (2) years (including this year). To receive this award, 4-H members must complete an application and submit it to the 4-H Office.

Project Achievement Award

You can receive this award by completing and turning in a 4-H Project Book by the deadline established.

Beef Poster Contest

This contest is open to all 4-H members. Based on participation, posters will be recognized and entered into the state competition.

Dairy Poster Contest

This contest is open to all 4-H members. Based on participation, posters will be recognized and entered into the state competition.

4-H Scholarship

Graduating seniors must complete a scholarship application to be considered. One application applies to all 4-H-related scholarships on both the parish and state levels.

Parish, State, and National Level Contest

Youth representing the parish at state-level contests and national-level events will be recognized. Some of those include the Louisiana 4-H Food Challenge, the Louisiana 4‑H SeaPerch Competition, Citizenship Washington Focus, etc.

Alumni Award

This award is given to individuals who are alumni of 4-H and are still actively contributing to the 4-H Program. To be considered for this award, a nomination form must be completed. Individuals can nominate themselves for this award.

Outstanding 4-H Club Leader Award

4-H members and parents can nominate their club leader through an online nomination form to receive this award.

Club Officers Record

Each club officer can submit a record at the end of the year.

How to Receive

Outstanding 4-H Club

This award will be judged on a point system. Points are given based on a rubric for each monthly club meeting the 4-H Agent attends and youth participation in 4-H events throughout the year.

4-H Display Contest People’s Choice Award

During National 4-H Week, school clubs will have the opportunity for their display to be judged through our Facebook page. We will recognize the 1st -3rd place winners. Winners are based on the number of likes/reactions by the day and time established.

Community Service Award

In 4-H, we pledge our hands to larger service. 4-H Clubs who have conducted service projects throughout the year are encouraged to complete the appropriate form and submit it alongside the registration form.

T-Shirt Contest

Each 4-H Club is encouraged to participate in the t-shirt contest. This contest allows clubs to showcase their club shirts for the year. Please wear your shirts on the day of Achievement Day.

4-H Flag Contest

All 4-H Clubs are encouraged to participate in this contest. Flags will be used during the opening ceremonies as we introduce each club represented during the day. All schools will be given a blank flag. Flags are to be decorated, original, and CANNOT be done professionally.

Song & Yell Contest

Each 4-H Club is encouraged to prepare a 4-H song, yell, or chant to present during Achievement Day's song, yell, and chant portion. All songs/yells/chants cannot be more than 3 minutes in length. Incorporate the Achievement Day theme, name of your school, 4-H, various projects, activities, etc., into your song/yell. Use your favorite tune as a starting point. No music accompaniment will be allowed. Acts must be performed from seat location.

Talent Showcase

Each school is allowed to have one (1) entry in the Talent Showcase. This is an opportunity for 4-H members to showcase their talents to their peers. Club Leaders are to select the individual(s) representing their school, complete the information sheet, and submit it alongside the Achievement Day Registration Form.

Scrapbooking Contest

Any 4-H Club in St. John Parish can submit one scrapbook each year. The scrapbook must be complied with and prepared by the 4-H members with the assistance of the 4-H club leader.

4-H Spirit Stick

One (1) 4-H Club will walk away with the 4-H Spirit Stick. This award will be presented to the club that exhibits the most spirit throughout 4-H Achievement Day.
