EBR Master Gardeners present medicinal plants, attracting birds at Central Branch Library

(05/23/24) BATON ROUGE, La. — Medicinal plants and attracting birds to yards will be the topics of two presentations from the East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners at the Central Branch Library, 11260 Joor Road, on Thursday, June 6.

Master Gardener Lyn Hakeem will be joined by nurse practitioner Margaret Evans. They will give a brief history of medicinal plants with a focus on two herbs that have been used in treatment and care of some of Evans’ patients. They will be doing hands-on preparations of these so the audience can learn how to use them appropriately. Handouts with additional information and recipes will be provided.

Master Gardener Bob Dillemuth will discuss planning design, plant selection, habitat creation and other enhancements to meet the basic needs for birds in home landscapes. Dillemuth has been a Master Gardener since 2006, is the past president of the Louisiana Native Plant Society and is a certified Louisiana Master Naturalist. He has been an active member and supporter of the LSU Hilltop Arboretum.

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
