Outdoor Adventure Day

This year’s Outdoor Adventure Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. and is open to all members. Activities on this day will include Outdoor Skills & Fishing Sports activities. A bus will be provided for transportation from the Rienzi Shopping Center lot behind Raising Cane’s in Thibodaux, the Galliano Walmart, and the 4-H Office in Raceland to the site. All attendees must ride the bus to the site. Once you have registered for the day, a bus schedule will be provided.

We ask that you bring a rod and reel with a small stopper and small hook. You may want to bring extras, as well. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Prizes will be awarded during the day! A $10 registration fee will be charged to cover expenses. Please go to Outdoor Adventure Day to register. If it happens to be a rainy day, the activities will be cancelled. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the 4-H office at 985-446-1316. We hope to see your child there!

Entrepreneurship Craft Workshop

Attention 8th – 12th Graders: There will be a “Free” wreath making workshop on Thursday, May 16th at the Agriculture Building in Raceland beginning at 4:00 p.m. This is a make and take workshop. Members will learn marketing strategies that can be used for a start-up business or to participate in the Tiger Tank Entrepreneurship Contest at 4-H University. Space is limited, so call the 4-H Office at 985-446-1316 to sign up.

We Want YOU for 4-H U

The Louisiana Executive Board selected the theme “Channel Your Leadership” for our 2024 4-H University. Each year 4-H members who are in the 8th-12th grade as of August 1, 2023, are eligible to participate in 4-H University to demonstrate their skills in more than 40 competitive events. It is a culmination of a 4-H member’s year of hard work and dedication. Events range from Agricultural Use Demonstration, Automotive Care, Fishing Sports, Public Speaking, Fashion Revue, and more! Through competing, youth demonstrate life skills in teamwork, decision making, problem solving, resiliency, and many more. Each competitive event allows youth an opportunity for personal growth, skill mastery, and other life skills vital to functioning members of society. The official dates for the 2024 Louisiana 4-H University are Tuesday, June 18th to June 21st on the campus of Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. Anyone interested in participating in 4-H University should use the link below to register. 4-H Achievement Day Results

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2024 Achievement Day. Lafourche Parish Farm Bureau sponsored the Achievement Day awards. The overall results are:

Elementary Division

  • 1st Place – Lockport Upper
  • 2nd Place – Galliano Elementary
  • 3rd Place – Holy Rosary
  • 4th Place – St. Joseph Elementary
  • 5th Place – St. Genevieve Elementary

Middle School Division

4-H Scholarships

Three seniors were honored this year with parish scholarships. Congratulations to Evan Louviere, South Lafourche High School for receiving the Dalton Landry Memorial Scholarship; Curstyn Oncale, Thibodaux High School for receiving the Scott Tractor Scholarship and Beaux Curole, E. D. White for receiving a 4-H Foundation Shooting Sports Scholarship. Beaux also received the LA 4-H Foundation Scholarship and the Cliff Williams Memorial Scholarship. Congratulations to all on a job well done!

4-H Award of Excellence Winners

This year 10 Award of Excellence medals were presented to 4th—6th grade 4-H members. The awards are based on the results of overall records (portfolios).1st Place—Jaxon Arnold, Lockport Middle; 2nd Place—Estelle Bourgeois, Lockport Middle; 3rd Place—Jonah Curole, Holy Rosary; 4th Place—Iyron Cheramie, Holy Rosary; 5th Place—Alyana Callais, Holy Rosary; 6th Place—Alexa Callais, Holy Rosary; 7th Place – Sydney Pitre, Lockport Middle, 8th Place—Cheyanne Doiron, Lockport Middle; 9th Place—Anabelle Naquin, St. Genevieve and 10th Place, Ruthie Danos, Holy Rosary. Congratulations to all of you on a job well done!

Junior Leader Times

The Top 10 Junior Leaders for the 2023-2024 school year were Reese Borne, Adele Stein and Toni Arnold from Central Lafourche High; Kale Guidry from South Lafourche High; Logan Curole and Beaux Curole from E. D. White; Connor Hitt from Raceland Middle; Rylun Guidry from Larose-Cut Off Middle and Mikalia Himel from Sixth Ward Middle.

The #1 Junior Leader was Zayle Falgout from Central Lafourche High School. Congratulations for a job well done. On behalf of the entire Lafourche Parish Junior Leader organization, we would like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer. To all the graduating seniors, good luck in your future endeavors, and to all upcoming 13-year-old 4-H members, we hope to see you at the first Junior Leader meeting next year!

LA 4-H Food Challenge

LA 4-H Food Challenge took place on April 3rd at the Mega Shelter in Alexandria. The Lafourche Parish 4-H team of Eleanor Straney, Amelia Straney, Molly Montet and Mary Albares from St. Joseph Elementary. All teams were given a secret ingredient with which to plan, shop, cook a dish, prepare a presentation, and clean up-all within 40 minutes! This year’s secret ingredient was fish, and Lafourche made grilled fish with a potato stack to present to the judges. Congratulations to our Lafourche team for their outstanding effort in taking on this challenge!

Shooting Sports Participants Take State Honors

Lafourche Parish 4-H’ers participated in the State Shooting Sports competition in Shreveport in April.The following 4-H’ers placed at the state competition:

White, 9th Place in 3D Bare Bow Genesis Seniors; Bennett Price, Lockport Middle, 10th Place in Archery Modified FITA Recurve Bare Bow Juniors; Wyatt Waguespack, St. Genevieve, 7th Place in Archery Modified FITA Compound 12-13 Limited/Pins Juniors; Madelyn Fossum, Central Lafourche, 7th Place in Archery National Recurve FITA Overall and 3rd Place Senior Team Hunting Skills; Logan Benoit, Bayou Community Academy, 4th Place in Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Juniors; Hunter Poche, Thibodaux High, 6th Place Overall Hunting Skills, 2nd Place Decision Making in Hunting Skills and 3rd Place Senior Team Hunting Skills; Joel Orgeron, Home School, 1st Place Decision Making Hunting Skills and 3rd Place Senior Team Hunting Skills, Ethan Orgeron, Home School, 3rd Place Senior Team Hunting Skills and Tristan Pertuit, St. Mary’s, 6th Place Overall Junior Division.

As the 6th place overall winner in Hunting Skills, Hunter Poche from Thibodaux High earned a spot on the national hunting skills team and will be representing Lafourche Parish and Louisiana in the national competition in Nebraska in June. Good luck Hunter and congrats to all of our shooting sports contestants on a job well done.

This includes keeping your home clean, doing routine tasks and taking action to keep your home safe and prevent accidents. A clean and organized home creates a healthful and safer environment. Creating daily habits to care for your home is an easy way to manage tasks efficiently.
