Have you heard the West Feliciana LSU AgCenter is partnering with the West Feliciana Parish Library to provide a variety of samples of herbs and spices? A Taste of Herbs and Spices program is part of the LSU AgCenter Flavors of Health, a Nutrition & Community Health program. Each month, stop by the West Feliciana Parish Library to pick up a free sample of the herb or spice of the month. A different spice or herb will be highlighted and provided along with a factsheet which will include information on how to grow and use the spice or herb along with a recipe and upcoming nutrition programs. The sample provided will be enough to prepare the recipe on the factsheet. All factsheets and herbs/spices will be available on a first come, first served basis. “It gives people the chance to try something new without spending money on a jar of herbs and spices”, said Elizabeth Gollub, a nutrition specialist and registered dietitian with the LSU AgCenter who oversees the Flavors of Health Program. The goal of this program is to introduce the residents of West Feliciana Parish to a variety of herbs and spices and to teach people there are different ways to flavor their foods without using salt and as well as share information about upcoming nutrition programs.
