All proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, Tennessee. Many children and their families from St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital use this location.

Exploring the Elements of Art Monthly Lesson

Students will be introduced to one of the basic elements of art-texture-by identifying different types of textures found in multiple works of art and hypothesize what materials and techniques were used to achieve that texture. Then, they will experiment with a variety of media and materials, including found objects, to create different textures.

They will also be learning about space. Artists use their canvas to create depth and dimension with space. Space is the area between and around objects. The space around objects is often called negative space. Negative space has shape. Space can also refer to the feeling of depth. Real space is three dimensional. In visual art, when we create the feeling or illusion of depth, we call it space.

What parents should know about camp!

Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. It’s a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, gain independence, get along with others, and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. One of the most important things children learn from camp is self-sufficiency. That is, they learn they can survive for four days on their own. To help our campers learn self-sufficiency, parents are asked not to call or visit campers unless there is an emergency. Campers may not bring cell phones or electronic devices to camp. The camp week consists of four days, beginning on Monday afternoon when the campers arrive at camp and ending on Thursday morning after breakfast. 4-H Agents, volunteer leaders, and junior counselors from each parish attend camp and stay in the cabins with the campers.

Educational Tracks at camp are:

  • Food & Fitness
  • Get Ready, Get Set! - Science, Engineering, & Technology
  • Outdoor Adventures
  • The Artist Within
  • Gardening
  • Explore Louisiana: Wetlands, Wildlife, And You!
  • Water Safety - That’s What’s Sup!

Marsh Maneuvers is a five-day coastal ecology camp for high schools 4-H members that will be held in the month of July. The fee to attend Marsh Maneuvers will be $150 per participant and is non-refundable. 4-H members who will have completed 9th grade by July 2024 through 4-H’ers who have completed 12th grade by July 2024 are invited to apply to attend this event. Anyone interested in applying to Marsh Maneuvers needs to contact the 4-H office no later than Monday, March 25th. Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
