AgCenter to host horticulture field day July 21 in Hammond

(07/14/23) HAMMOND, La. — The LSU AgCenter will hold its annual horticulture field day July 21 at the Hammond Research Station.

“This event is the highlight of our year,” said Jeb Fields, assistant research coordinator at the station. “The team has done and incredible job in the gardens, and our students have conducted amazing research that we are excited to share.”

Event registration, coffee and snacks will be offered beginning at 7:45 a.m. Attendees will hear updates from AgCenter administrators at 8:30 a.m., with tours of the trials gardens and research presentations to follow.

The Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association will provide lunch and host a panel discussion and industry update until 1 p.m.

Landscape architects can receive up to five continuing education credits (CEUs) if they stay for the entire program.

Virtual field day content will be available at app.lsuagcenter.com/hammondtrials.

The station is located at 21549 Old Covington Highway in Hammond.

Faculty and staff evaluate hundreds of new plants every year to provide information about which ones perform best in Louisiana conditions. They also conduct research on topics such as growing plants in soilless substrates, improving production efficiency and determining best practices for landscapes.
