The 33rd Caldwell 4-H Awards Night was held on May 1 at the Caldwell Parish High School Fine Arts Building. During the program, Caldwell 4-H'ers and 4-H volunteer leaders were recognized for their 2022-2023 achievements. Senior 4-H member Graci Dunn served as Master of Ceremonies.
County Agent Jim McCann and 4-H Agent Jana Bennett recognized Adult Volunteers and Organizational Club Leaders and presented each with a special gift for a job well done throughout the school year.
Among the 4-H'ers recognized for great accomplishments this club year were twelve 4-Star 4-H Club members. Members receiving this award participated in ten 4-H contests, submitted a 4-H portfolio with project book included, and presented an illustrated talk or demonstration during a 4-H club meeting. This years' 4-Star Award winners were Blake Adams, Callie Barnhill, Graci Dunn, Mae Dunn, Paislee Dunn, Evan Hillestad, Victoria Lasiter, Vivian Lasiter, Bridger McCann, Lander McCann, AnnaBeth Strickland, and Sawyer Watts. The recipients were presented with a trophy and $25 provided by the Columbia Lions Club.
4-Star Junior Leader Awards were presented to seven 4-H Junior Leader Club members. Members receiving Junior Leader 4-Star are required to participate in at least four Junior Leader meetings, assist with two community service or service learning projects, participate in two 4-H fundraising activities, and assist with four 4-H contests or events. This years' recipients were Blake Adams, Graci Dunn, Avery Dumas, Britney Grant, Macie Hall, Maddox Schulte, and AnnaBeth Strickland. These winners received a medallion and $25 provided by the Caldwell 4-H Foundation.
Caldwell 4-H members competed at the Northeast District and State Horse Shows in June and July 2022 and the Northeast Louisiana Junior Livestock Horse Show in February 2023. Participants were AnnaBeth Strickland, Jillian McClanahan, Graci Dunn, Mae Dunn, and Graci Waller.
Shooting Sports members traveled to Grand Cane, Louisiana to compete in Archery, Rifle and Shotgun disciplines during Northern Regionals held in March. Members competing at Regionals were Blake Adams, Jake Adkins, Logan Adkins, Lauren Barnhill, Chance Baum, Karlee Carnahan, Luke Clark, EmmaLynn Corley, Joshua DeLancy, Landon DeLancy, Avery Dumas, Paislee Dunn, Kathryn Fuller, Kyleigh Jeffery, Crae Laird, Virginia Lamb, Victoria Lasiter, Vivian Lasiter, Aiden Lenard, Chase McBroom, Jackson McClanahan, Jeremiah Munoz, Jon Mark Pauley, Jacob Rowland, Grant Scarbrough, Maddox Schulte, Jacob Shumaker, and Ian Smith. Nineteen of Caldwell's Northern Regionals participants qualified to compete at State competition held in April.
The 2022-2023 Caldwell 4-H Club of the Year Member Participation Award was presented to Caldwell Parish Junior High School 7th and 8th grade club. The 2022-2023 Caldwell 4-H Club of the Year Monthly Club Meetings Award was presented to Old Bethel Christian Academy 7th to 12th Grade Club. Each of these outstanding clubs were presented with a trophy.
Callie Barnhill, McKenzie Laird, and Ian Smith were awarded the Lola Caldwell Memorial Scholarship. Graci Dunn was awarded the Scott Foundation Scholarship and the Louisiana 4-H Foundation scholarship.
4-H Honor Cords are presented through the State 4-H Office and sponsored by the State 4-H Foundation and are to be worn at graduation with the cap and gown. 4-H members who are graduating seniors and are eligible to receive honor cords must have been enrolled in 4-H for three years in high school, including their senior year, and must have participated in at least one state sponsored 4-H program, or been active in parish and regional events in the last 3 years. 4-H Honor Cords were presented to Avery Ates, Callie Barnhill, Daisy Duke, Graci Dunn, Brent Jolly, Collin Johnson, McKenzie Laird, Zoey Prough, and Ian Smith.
