Northwest beef, forage field day set for April 27

(03/03/23) HOMER, La. — The LSU AgCenter will hold its annual Northwest Region Beef and Forage Field Day April 27 at the Hill Farm Research Station in Homer.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m. The Hill Farm Research Station is located at 11959 Highway 9 in Homer.

The field day will cover multiple topics, including:

— Cattle market update and outlook.

— Clover limitations.

— Opportunities for native grasses.

— Weed control updates.

— New antibiotic rules and herd health updates.

Lunch will be provided, and a presentation on using drones for weed control will follow.

AgCenter livestock agent Lee Faulk said the cattle industry has gone through significant upheaval in the past few years.

“Cattle producers are very interested in the state of our industry and where the markets are headed,” he said. “Persistently high input prices and changes to antibiotic regulations are forcing producers to examine their operations for ways to save money and continue to provide their cattle herds with appropriate care when needed.”

Event coordinators ask attendees who intend to have lunch to RSVP by April 20 by contacting Kathy Moore at
