(09/16/22) BATON ROUGE, La. — The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction is now accepting nominations for its annual induction ceremony, which will be held March 2, 2023, in Baton Rouge.
The nomination form can be obtained online at www.louisianaagriculturehallofdistinction.com or through any parish LSU AgCenter office. The deadline for receiving nominations is Nov. 18.
The Hall of Distinction is a program of the Louisiana Radio Network, LSU AgCenter, Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to recognize individuals who have a profound effect on Louisiana agriculture or agricultural enterprises. Nominees can represent any facet of agriculture or agriculture-related industries, including farming, ranching, aquaculture, fisheries, education and agribusiness.
“The LSU AgCenter and the LSU system recognize the important role agriculture plays in Louisiana,” said Matt Lee, interim vice president for agriculture and dean of the LSU College of Agriculture. “It is one of the five points of emphasis in the LSU Scholarship First Agenda. This event allows us to celebrate the men and women who have helped build the foundation for agriculture to succeed in our state.”
The three individuals inducted in 2022 were Paul Coreil, former director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extensions Service and current chancellor of LSU Alexandria; longtime Louisiana Radio Network farm broadcaster Don Molino, of Baton Rouge; and Jim Monroe, the former assistant to the president of Louisiana Farm Bureau, where Monroe worked for 47 years.
“We are pleased the Hall of Distinction remains a signature event each year to honor those who have contributed to our state’s agricultural industry,” said Louisiana Radio Network President Jim Engster. “The past year has reminded us how we depend upon agriculture to provide for us, and we would like to recognize those individuals who have made it so successful.”
Since its inception, 28 individuals have been inducted into the Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction.
“The Louisiana Agriculture Hall of Distinction is a great way to recognize the pioneers who made farming and ranching as successful as it is in our state,” said Louisiana Farm Bureau President Jim Harper. “The Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation is proud to sponsor and be a part of this event where we’ve seen many of our volunteer leaders recognized for their lifetimes of hard work."
“Agriculture and forestry are deeply rooted in Louisiana history and will be for generations to come,” said Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain. “The actions of past inductees and those soon to be nominated have gotten us where we are today and will carry us into the future. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is proud to honor those that have made such profound impacts on our state and everyday lives.”
Bayer is the title sponsor for this year’s event.
