(08/18/22) BATON ROUGE, La. — Join Seeds to Success: The Louisiana Farm to School program for the 2022 Farm to School gathering in Baton Rouge on September 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Pennington Biomedical Convention Center.
The event will gather farm to school stakeholders from across the state working to grow locally sourced school meals, garden spaces, healthy food and to promote agriculture literacy in Louisiana. The event is for people who desire to increase access to local food and food education in their school communities.
Attendees can take part in in-person sessions, guided by farm to school champions across the state. The emphasis will be the three main components of farm to school — education, school gardens and local food procurement. So, whether you desire to start a school garden and do not know where to start, or are a seasoned advocate of local food procurement, this event is for you.
Sessions will focus on implementing farm to school programs, enhancing education, agritourism, school gardens, cooking in the classroom and taste tests. In addition, the gathering will feature a venue for networking, allowing both exhibitors and attendees the opportunity to meet in a relaxed face-to-face environment and establish lasting relationships.
Beverly Girard, consultant with Chef Cyndie’s K12 Culinary Team, will kick off the conference with the keynote address. Girard is a coach and leader to many professionals in school nutrition, specializing in operational and financial management. She has over thirty years’ experience providing leadership, mentoring and training for staff and dietetics students in school nutrition operations and management, quantity food production, nutrition education and customer service.
“Our team is pleased to offer an in-person event with inspiring sessions, abundant resources and knowledgeable speakers,” said Louisiana Farm to School Program director Crystal Besse. “We’re grateful we can continue to connect with our stakeholders and bring them the opportunity to network and share and gain knowledge while celebrating the successes of farm to school from around the state.”
