(08/10/22) ALEXANDRIA, La. — The LSU AgCenter is releasing its 2022 Dean Lee Research and Extension Center virtual field day Aug. 10.

“We appreciate the continued enthusiasm shown for our virtual programming even after we’ve moved back into our traditional in-person events,” said AgCenter livestock specialist Ashley Edwards. “We’re eager to provide our producers and stakeholders with pertinent updates and information in the fields of horticulture, agronomy and beef and cattle forage production through this annual virtual event.”

Horticulture
— 2022 strawberry highlights.
— Landscape tree damage mitigation.
— Tree branch angles.
— 2022 native plant highlights.
Agronomy
— Soybean, grain sorghum and corn plant pathology updates.
— Grain sorghum weed control.
— Soybean insect pest management.
— Cotton, corn and grain sorghum updates.
Cattle and forage
— Tree management in pastures.
— Using lime to improve pH on critical pastures.
— Planning and planting ryegrass in 2022.
— Bull management during the offseason.
Tara Smith, Central Region director, said that even though the AgCenter has fully returned to hosting in-person field days, workshops and other events following the pandemic, she understands the value and impacts realized with virtual events in reaching a wider and more diverse audience.
“The Dean Lee virtual field day is an opportunity to conveniently view a wider variety of the research and extension programs that are ongoing in the Central Region,” she said.
