Work Location: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Nature of Work: The Medicinal Plant Lab based at LSU AgCenter in Baton Rouge is seeking a Research Associate to assist with lab work as part of a research program focused on developing natural cleaners to remove chemical residues in sprayer equipment. Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in biology, natural resources, horticulture, or related field and lab experience working with plant extracts and their biological effects in agricultural applications. The ideal candidate will be experienced in extracting plant materials, performing instrumental analysis (e.g., HPLC, UV-Vis), and testing the extracts using chemical and/or biological assays. Research experiences are particularly desired with natural compounds. The successful candidate will be expected to help maintain lab equipment, conduct experiments, compile data, draft experiment reports, and contribute to the writing of manuscripts for publications. The position involves supporting and working with faculty, supervising undergraduate students, as well as communicating with collaborators. Occasional weekend work may be required.
Qualification Requirements: Applicant must hold a BS/BA degree. Applicant must possess experience in some, or preferably all, of the following (1) experience working with plant materials including processing and extraction in the lab; (2) ability to prepare product samples according to instructions (e.g., dilution, storage, and usage amount), and ability to work independently, create work plans, and meet deadlines; (3) experience working in a laboratory with chemicals, natural compounds, volatile ingredients; and (4) experience working with spreadsheets, power-point presentations, poster creation, and project reports.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
