Louisiana FFA members compete in state leadership development events

(12/21/21) BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana FFA members recently gathered at McNeese State University to compete in State Leadership Development Events.

To be eligible for competition, members qualified through parish, district and area competitions this fall. The top two students or teams from each area were invited to participate in the state events.

“The benefits received from participating in an LDE include public speaking skills, communication strategies, leadership growth, confidence, memorization skills and teaching strategies,” said Cade LeJeune, executive secretary of the Louisiana FFA Association.

The winner of each event will represent Louisiana at the National FFA Convention in October.

The Louisiana FFA Association is composed of more than 10,000 student members from 202 FFA chapters in 51 parishes.

Contest results are below.

Creed speaking, sponsored by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation: First place, Isaac Lejeune, Jennings; second place, Nate Bellanger, Central Lafourche; third place, Emily Jones, Winnfield; and fourth place, Mkye Francis, Opelousas.

Employment skills: First place, Morgan Green, Florien; second place, Grace Manuel, Florien; third place, Allie Hubbard, Northshore; and fourth place, Iris Lormand, Acadiana.

Extemporaneous public speaking: First place, Peyton Little, Winnfield; second place, Cesilee Oliver, Kinder; third place, Kassidy Kelley, Ruston; and fourth place, Carol Chandler, LaSalle.

Geaux Teach Ag, sponsored by the Louisiana Teach Ag Campaign: First place, Andyn Zammit, Jennings; second place, Natalie Espinosa, St. Amant; third place, Eliza Persons, Jennings; and fourth place, Breanna Graham, East Ascension.

Gulf of Mexico public speaking, sponsored by the Sabine River Authority: First place, Morgan Green, Florien; second place, Sydney Bruchhaus, Elton; third place, Breland Martin, Winnfield; and fourth place, Nigel Kinsey, Ruston.

Parliamentary procedure: First place, Winnfield; second place, Elton; third place, Acadiana; and fourth place, Ruston.

Prepared public speaking, sponsored by the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation: First place, Thomas Knight, Jennings; second place, Colton Conley, Natchitoches Central; third place, Lauren Poole, Winnfield; and fourth place, Jillian Lantz, Jennings.
