Ms. JoAnn Hullum is an integral piece of many Ascension programs and founded two project clubs. She began her 4-H journey as a 4-H member in Pennsylvania, where she also led a community club. She began volunteering in Louisiana when her oldest daughter joined 4-H. JoAnn started and continues to lead the Home & Style project club for Ascension 4-H. This club began when JoAnn took over the Sew with Cotton contest and expanded it into Parish Fashion Camp and then Home & Style Club. As leader, she encourages members to join, creates educational lessons, runs monthly meetings, organizes the Annual Ascension 4-H Fashion Show, coordinates the Ascension 4-H Clothing contests, and recruits judges contest judges. She encourages her members to join Jr. Leader club when eligible and pushes them to reach their full potential through 4-H University and State Boards, training and mentoring them every step of the way! She has conducted parish fashion camps and encourages and selects parish participants for state fashion camp. JoAnn and her husband founded the Ascension 4-H Shooting Sports program which has grown to over 150 members. She serves as a rifle instructor, trains Outdoor skills 4-H University participants, and helps to co-teach the annual Hunter’s Education Course for the public and Ascension 4-H members. JoAnn developed the idea for a Friday series of educational summer 4-H workshops and was instrumental in suggesting potential topics, securing professionals to teach workshops, and obtaining supplies. She has conducted record book training, Sugar Cookery prep, and other workshops in the parish. JoAnn also volunteers with the Ascension 4-H Foundation Board. She serves as treasurer for the board and assists the Administrative Coordinator with QuickBooks training, inputting data, and running reports and reconciliations. Over the years, she has been recognized in Ascension Parish as a 4-H Project Club Leader for 21 years and was the recipient of the State 4-H Alumni Award in 2007.
