POSITION DESCRIPTION: The School of Animal Sciences is seeking exceptional scholars in the field of animal science for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek candidates with active research programs applying innovative multidisciplinary approaches to issues related to developmental biology of domestic species. Candidates should have a PhD, a solid publication record and evidence of excellent potential to maintain an externally funded, independent research program. This is a 12-month tenure track position - 70% research, 30% teaching.
RESEARCH: The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent research program addressing fundamentally important questions in developmental biology affecting animal production in one or more domestic animal species. Individuals with research interests in maternal and/or paternal inheritance of environmental influences by epigenetic mechanisms are encouraged to apply. The applicant will be expected to conduct research appropriate for publication in refereed journals; obtain extramural funding; and participate in collaborative research within the School of Animal Sciences, across the LSU system, and with outside entities.
TEACHING: Teaching expectations include primary responsibility for an undergraduate course based on the successful candidate’s field, shared responsibility for other departmental courses, and a graduate level course in his/her area of expertise. Candidate will be expected to develop a strong graduate student mentoring program, especially at the Ph.D. level.
FACILITIES: Louisiana has vibrant animal industries with strong links to the School of Animal Sciences. The School of Animal Sciences has a new state of the art research laboratory building supporting research in physiology, nutrition, meat science, immunology, genomics, and developmental biology. The School of Animal Sciences facilitates the operation of centralized farm units in beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, small ruminants, and poultry available for research and teaching. Louisiana State University has core units providing services in genomics, tissue culture, cell sorting, microscopy, and proteomics.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Animal Science or related field with knowledge of animal production. Experience in molecular and cellular approaches to research and a commitment to teaching excellence is required. Post-doctoral experience with evidence of collaborative research and potential for procuring extramural funding is preferred.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity for supplemental salary through extramural grant funding.
