Springtime is a great time to commit to healthier living. One way to do that is to increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. In recent years, farmers’ markets have become an increasingly popular choice for seeking local produce.
Northeast Louisiana has followed that trend. At present, every parish in northeast Louisiana offers at least one farmer-owned market area. The LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture websites offer links to these farmers’ markets.
In addition, many farmers market vendors are equipped to accept government benefits to extend the food buying dollar. WIC, SNAP, and senior benefits are becoming increasingly accepted.
