Chef Contest

4hchefbmp4-H’ers that enjoy cooking and/or baking this is the contest for you. Participants will video or create a “picture story” of themselves cooking a dish at home. A “Picture Story” is multiple pictures that tell the “story” of how you made your dish. Videos and “picture stories” should include ingredients, cooking process, and finished products.

How to Enter: Email video or “picture story” of you (4-H member) cooking a dish along with the recipe to by Monday, December 7th by 4:30 P.M. Include in the subject line: “4-H Chef Contest”. Include within the email: 4-H member’s name, school/club, grade and judging category. You may enter one dish in each category.

Food Exhibit Categories:

  • Egg Dessert
  • Any Beef Dish
  • Pecan Candy/Dessert
  • Any Rice Dish
  • Any Sweet Potato Dish

Give Thanks!

This is the time of the year we tend to be mindful of giving thanks or being thankful. On behalf of the Junior Leader Club, I am thankful for the following:

  • A membership of 24 eager 4-H’ers wanting to further develop their leadership skills and serve their community.
  • A slate of great Junior Leader Club Officers willing to guide the club.
  • Caring and concern for first responders/military/elderly in our community through our service-learning project “Helping Hands, Healing Hearts”.
  • Mentors for younger 4-H’ers.

Helping Hands, Healing Hearts Service Project – Shoe Boxes for Seniors

helpinghandsiconbmpThe Jr. Leader Club will be assisting Opelousas Sunrise Rotary Club with Shoe Boxes for Seniors as part of this years’ service project. Each Jr. Leader member is asked to bring 2 unwrapped shoe boxes (1 man and 1 women) filled with items listed below to the November Jr. Leader Club meeting or by December 1st.

  • Books reading/puzzle (large print)
  • Scarfs/Hat
  • Blanket
  • No-slip socks
  • Non-medicated toiletries
  • Coloring books/coloring supplies
  • Christmas trinkets
  • Stuffed animal

November Club Meeting

The November Junior Leader Club Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2020. At this meeting, we will be finalizing plans for upcoming workshops and discussing our service project for area nursing homes (Shoe Boxes for Seniors). Bring an unwrapped shoe box with items for a Senior nursing home resident for Christmas.

Pointe Coupee Pecan Fundraiser


Thanks to those of you that participated in this fundraiser. All orders have been collected and pecans have been ordered. You will be able to pick up your orders at the 4-H Office by the November Junior Leader meeting date – November 17th. If you can’t make it to the meeting, you can pick it up any time that week or Thanksgiving week (Monday-Wednesday).

Project Books/Records Contest

If you would like to receive your 4-H Project Book, one book included with your dues, please contact the St. Landry 4-H Office. 4-H Agents can pull the book and have it ready for you to pick up at the 4-H Office. The holiday times are a great time to do some of the activities in your 4-H project book. Be sure to take pictures or have someone take pictures of you as you work on activities and complete projects.
