Have you completed your project book and have kept accurate records all year long? Compete in the State 4-H Portfolio Contest. This contest is open to all 4-H’ers. Prizes range from receiving cash, winning educational trips, livestock awards, attending National 4-H Conferences, and more. The deadline to submit your portfolio is June 1 to the 4-H Office. Spots are still available to attend 4-H Camp! East Feliciana will be attending camp Monday, June 8 – Friday, June 12, 2020. This camp is open to both 4-H members and non-4-H members in grades 4 through 6. The cost to attend camp is $225.00 per camper, which includes lodging, meals, transportation, parish group picture, and camp t-shirt. For those families who may need financial assistance, there is a scholarship available to you, but you must apply by March 27. For more information, contact Mr. Xavier.
Come and join over 1,500 4-H’ers across Louisiana at 4-H University this summer. 4-H University will be held on June 23-26 on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. 4-H members in grades 7th-12th and is 13 years old by Jan. 1, 2020 and have not passed their 20th birthday as of Jan. 1, 2020 will have the option to compete in one of 30+ contests or participate in the non-competitive opportunity, Clover College.
Contest range from public speaking and photography to entrepreneurship and plant identification. By competing in a contest, you have the chance to win trips, prizes, or compete on the national level. To reserve your spot, submit your application along with $90 by May 1. All outstanding balances must be paid by June 22 in order to attend. Join the Southeast and Southwest regions at the annual Ag Career Day, April 9th, at the St. Gabriel Research Station. This opportunity is open to 8th through 12th graders. During the day, participants will participate in interactive, hands-on workshops that expose them to the various career options in the agriculture industry. Space is limited; therefore, spots will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline to submit your application is March 16! Applications can be submitted by mail, email, or hand-delivery.
Seventh and eighth grade 4-H’ers, do you miss attending Camp Grant Walker in the summer? L.O.S.T. Camp was created just for you! Many of the same tracks offered at 4-H Camp will be offered. Also, you can participate in videography, animal science, and much, much more! The camp will be held July 26 – 29 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. The cost to attend is $150. To secure your spot, a $75 deposit is due to the 4-H Office along with your registration by May 1. For more information, contact Mr. Xavier.
Marsh Maneuvers s a 4-H camp for high school-aged youth that offers hands-on learning about Louisiana’s coast! Some of the unique experiences include taking a tour of the marsh in an airboat, helping restore wetlands by planting marsh, going crabbing, and touring the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens at Avery Island. Calling all inspired chefs! Participate in the Seafood, Poultry, Egg & Wild Game Cookery Contest on May 1st. Dishes will need to be dropped off at the 4-H Office between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. as judging will begin at 10:30 a.m. For more information refer to the Cookery Contest rules and regulations.
Do you want to enhance your leadership, responsibility, and communication skills while being a role model to younger 4-H members? Being a camp counselor might be for you. Each summer, camp counselors attend summer camp and assist in making sure campers have an positive experience. On Saturday, May 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m., we will conduct a camp counselor training for those 4-H’ers in grades 8-12. To attend any 4-H Camp as a counselor, you must complete this training. RSVP for this training by April 24 by emailing or calling the 4-H Office.
