Learn the basics of backyard gardening including finding the right type of garden for your needs, where to place your garden to increase your success, choosing the right fertilizer, and different types of soil.

Digging In

Who: Cheryl Skinner with St. Francis Vegetable Garden

A hands-on discussion on the different types of bugs found in a garden and how to identify and get rid of the ones that will damage your plants. Participants will also learn how to identify when plants are ready for harvesting.

Greauxing Healthy Habits

Who: Amanda Gibson, RD, LDN with LSU AgCenter

An interactive presentation on the benefits of consuming fruits and vegetables, how much you need to eat per day, and healthy cooking methods for your produce.

Preserving the Harvest

Who: Becky Gautreaux, MA, RD, LDN with LSU AgCenter

An informational presentation on how to preserve the bountiful produce harvested from your garden by freezing and canning.
