Dr. Lonnie McCray earned his Ph.D. from the University of North Texas in 2011 and currently serves as the dean of the Division of Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education at Southern University in Shreveport. Dr. McCray’s career accomplishments have never deterred him from giving his time and knowledge to 4-H as he has been a dedicated 4-H alumnus and the epitome of 4-H volunteerism in Caddo Parish since 2004. As a 4-H member, he served as club and Junior Leader president, was a state Fashion Board member, state ambassador and a National Conference delegate. As a 4-H volunteer, he continues his passion for 4-H by serving as an advisory leadership council facilitator; a judge for scholarships, talent, bake-off and cookery contests; and as a presenter at the end of year event. Dr. McCray was a 4-H Alumni Award Contest blue ribbon winner in 2012 and is recognized annually for his volunteer contributions. As the 4-H Advisory Council facilitator, he leads the council through decision-making processes, creates a sense of belonging with all members — especially the youth — and ensures their voices are heard. He has created and presented engaging hands-on activities for hundreds of youth during our end-of-year event the last five years. Dr. McCray also judges the parish 4-H scholarships and has served as a phone judge for state Executive Board applicants. Because of the effect 4-H had on his life, he strives to provide similar experiences to today’s youth. In 2014, he presented at area leader training on “100 Years of Growing Louisiana Leaders.” Dr. Lonnie McCray’s career accomplishments have never deterred him from giving his time and knowledge to 4-H.Please celebrate with us the induction of Dr. Lonnie McCray into the Louisiana 4-H Hall of Fame!
