The International Society of Forest Resource Economics (ISFRE) began as the Southern Forest Economics Workshop (SOFEW), whose first meeting was in Gulf Shores, Alabama, April 6-7, 1977. Over almost 40 years, then SOFEW, and now ISFRE, has fostered dialogue about research and practice surrounding all aspects of forest economics issues. Researchers traveled to New Orleans to discuss recent developments related to the management and economics of forest resources.
