Sue Hebert has been involved with 4-H since 1965 when she became a club member in Vermilion Parish for 10 years. She continued her involvement when her own three children joined. Since 1985 she has served as an Activity Volunteer Leader, and since 1989 she has served as a Livestock Volunteer Leader.
Sue has worked 25 hours per quarter on various programs to ensure that her employer, Wal‑Mart, matched a donation of $250 each quarter to the parish 4-H Program. The total Wal‑Mart contributions have totaled nearly $4,000. Sue’s goal is to one day sponsor an award in memory of two talented 4-H’ers who passed away.
Sue is the type of volunteer who truly believes in the 4-H Program and is always willing to lend a hand. Whether helping in the show ring or training for 4-H University, she is dependable and trustworthy and works long, hard hours to help young people accomplish their goals.
Sue’s participation in 4-H helped her develop skills to become a licensed florist. Because of her love for vegetable plants, flowers, shrubs and trees, she has become a Live Nursery Specialist. The leadership skills she developed in 4-H prepared her to become president of the American Legion Auxiliary on the local, area and district levels. She also has been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser for 10 years. As a Lowe’s employee, she has participated in the Hero Project for the past four years.
Sue also has worked on many projects: Boys & Girls Club; building a ramp at the home of a child with muscular dystrophy; building a storage building for the parish 4-H office; and working on the Kaplan High School Home Economics Department project.
For her work she was honored at the Vermilion Parish 4-H Achievement Day in 2006 and received her 30 Years-of-Service pin at the annual 4-H Leader Banquet in 2015.
