New equipment aids in detecting rice aromas

Manoch Kongchum, LSU AgCenter agronomy researcher, uses a gas chromatograph to detect both

quantitatively and qualitatively the aroma found in Jasmine-type rice. The equipment was purchased

with Louisiana Rice Research Board funds, and it also is being used to analyze air samples in a study of

greenhouse gas emissions from rice fields.
