Louisiana farmers know their trade well. Time and again it is being passed down to them over generations. The methods and strategies they employ on their farms are tried and true, whether it is working the field or raising animals in a barn. Every so often, however, farmers are uncertain, or even unprepared, when it comes to business strategies for their farms and meeting the requirements that local buyers have for them. Local restaurants, schools, and grocery/wholesale/retail businesses need their suppliers to manage their own food safety, insurance, product quality, packaging & labeling, and much more. The LSU AgCenter understands that this can seem daunting and can help with MarketReady Training workshops that address these issues and seek to educate Louisiana’s farmers on how to succeed in today’s markets in order to keep farming.
