Proper Window Cuts in Housewrap

An up-side-down martini-glass shape is traced within the window opening of the housewrap

Housewrap is cut along the traced lines.

Side and bottom flaps are wrapped iinside and secured.

Top cut is straight across.

Sides of opening are protected by the housewrap, but sill corners are vulnerable. A flashing system is needed for corners and sills.

Housewraps provide a drainage plane, protecting framing from moisture if openings are properly detailed.  The proper window cut allows flashing and windows to be installed "shingle fashion."
