Child Care Provider Technology-based Training Project

The LSU AgCenter is developing online training for child care provider in Louisiana. The training is Child Care: Business and Regulations and will help child care providers understand business aspects of owning and operating a child care business and also help them understand the new Louisiana Child Care Regulations that are anticipated to go into effect in 2012. Fourteen modules have been developed in e-learning software and hopefully will be ready for child care providers when the new regulations go into effect. The fourteen modules will provide eight hours of training and help child care providers meet new, increased hours of professional development. A team of experts in early childhood and technology at LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension Service have developed the online training. Dr. Rebecca White, LSU AgCenter Professor/State Extension Specialist in Child and Family Development provides leadership for the team.

There are two series offered in Child Care: Business and Regulations online training. The first series is titled - The Business of Child Care and involves four training modules. Each of the modules takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. In these modules participants will increase their knowledge about business aspects pertaining to opening and operating a quality child care business. The second series is titled - Child Day Care Center Rules and Regulations and includes 10 training modules. Each of these modules takes approximately 30 minutes to one hour to complete. Child care providers who take advantage of this online training can accomplish eight hours of training credit to meet their mandatory training requirements.
