This feedstock production feasibility index is a tool that shows the potential likelihood of biomass production for each parish in Louisiana. It also provides information to show which areas have the greatest potential to produce energycane for use in the biofuel industry.  Energycane is the feedstock presented in this feedstock production feasibility index.

This index is based on factors including total acres, crop yield, variable production costs and market price, as well as crop mix within parishes. The basic unit of comparison used was the net returns to grower and landlord above variable production costs. Both index scale and acreage potentials were estimated.

Information is provided by Dr. Michael Salassi, an LSU professor of agricultural economics and agribusiness. Salassi's area of specialization is crop production economics.

The index compares existing crops: corn, cotton, rice, sorghum, soybeans and sugarcane to energycane.
