On Tuesday, April 3, 2007, five St. Tammany 4-H members were eligible to participate in the 2007 4-H District Commodity Cookery Contest. The contest was held in the student union ballroom on the Southeastern Louisiana University Campus. To become eligible for the district contest the members first competed and placed first in the contest at the parish level. There were four divisions that members could make a recipe for. They are Beef, Egg, Poultry and Seafood. Each category had specific guidelines that the members had to follow for their recipe to qualify in the competition.
The 4-H'ers who won in their category and eligible to attend the District Cookery Contest were:
Kayla St. Blanc (Folsom Jr. High):
Her Zucchini Appetizer dish placed 1st in the Egg Appetizer / Salad division on the Parish Level and placed 1st place at the District Level. Her Reduced Fat Crawfish Corn Chowder dish placed 1st in the Seafood – Crawfish division on the Parish Level and placed 2nd place at the District Level.
Ashley Edmundson (Folsom Jr. High):
Her Pizza Casserole dish placed 1st in the Beef – One Dish Meal division on the Parish Level and received a Blue Ribbon at the District Level. Her Left Over Duck Salad dish placed 1st in the Poultry – Other Poultry division on the Parish Level and placed 2nd place at the District Level.
Remi Landry (Folsom Jr. High):
Her Bronzed Shrimp with Rice and Vegetables dish placed 1st in the Seafood – Shrimp division on the Parish Level and received a Blue Ribbon at the District Level.
Susan Palmer (Folsom Elementary):
Her Sweet Potato Casserole dish placed 1st in the Egg – Main Dish division on the Parish Level and placed 2nd place at the District Level.
Cheyenne Jones (Folsom Elementary):
Her Sweet Potato Casserole dish placed 1st in the Egg – Dessert division on the Parish Level and received a Blue Ribbon at the District Level.
Unable to attend the District Cookery was Curran Greene (Madisonville Jr. High) his Seafood and Cream Cheese Stuffed Hush Puppies with Hollandaise Sauce dish placed 1st Place in the Seafood – Crab division on the Parish Level.
