BEST Postdoctoral Program
| | Postdoctoral fellow Brett Reggio demonstrates in vitro fertilization techniques | Intended to increase the level of biotechnology research at the LSU AgCenter, the BEST program has also created a postdoctorate program. Researchers accepted into this program included Dr. Marek Bogacki, who worked with Dr. William Hansel, Dr. Kichoon Lee who worked with Dr. Roy Martin, Dr. Alicia Ryan, currently working with Dr. Oard for a second year (who began November, 2003), Dr. Brett Reggio, who worked with Richard Denniston, and Dr. Billy Dudley, with Dr. Richard Cooper. Dr.’s Bogacki, Dudley, and Reggio were heavily involved with instructing the high school students and teachers in the BEST summer program; their work was integral in the success of the program. Dr. Reggio resigned in July, 2003 to take a job in the human in vitro fertilization field and was replaced by Dr. Marina Sansinena. Dr. Sansinena resigned in June 2005. Investigators accepted in 2004 include Dr. Jun Zhou, working with Dr. Roy Martin in Human Ecology, Dr. Jennifer Lo, working with Dr. Fred Enright in Veterinary Science, and Dr. Andrew DeRosa, working with Jerome LaPayre in the Department of Veterinary Science. Dr. Lo completed her postdoctoral fellowship in June 2005. Dr. DeRosa and Dr. Zhou are continuing a second year of their postdoctorates. Two new postdoctoral fellows were accepted in July 2005. These were Dr. Daisy Dong, working jointly with Dr. Terry Tiersch, of Aquaculture, and Dr. Todd Monroe, in Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Rachael Collier began working with Dr. Claudia Husseneder of Entomology in 2005 and is continuing her appointment in 2006-7. Dr. Deanna Colby began work with Dr. Claudia Husseneder of Entomology in July 2006. Dr. Rangaraj Nandakumar began working with Dr. Milton Rush of Plant Pathology in July 2006.
Postdoctorate researchers currently receive a stipend of $20,000 per year, fringe benefits, and $5,000 for supplies.
Postdoctoral candidates were selected from a list of applicants by a specially appointed Selection Committee.
