4-H Snap Club Meets and Learns About Composition

Members of the Pointe Coupee 4-H “1, 2, 3 Snap” Photography Club pose and show off their photo assignments at the January Snap Club Meeting.

Four-H “1, 2, 3, Snap” Club members met on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at The Cottonport Bank Community Center for their monthly project club meeting. The assignment was holiday photos of people, places, and things emphasizing good color and composition.

Once they arrived and displaced their assignments, the 4-H’ers were treated to a photo show of photographs taken by Snap Club Leader, David Breidenbach, while on a trip to Alaska. After the photo show, Mr. David reviewed the goals of the Snap Club. He then reminded the club that their assignment for January should have good composition, use good lighting, and show plenty of color in the background and foreground.

During the snack break, Snap Club members viewed fellow members photo assignments and were even able to vote for their Top 3 favorites. Mr. David and Mrs. Layne Langley, 4-H Agent, then tabulated the votes. Those capturing the most votes were invited to the front of the room to share information about their photograph – including if a flash was used, what they liked best about their photograph, and if they had any problem taking the photo. The 4-H’ers who the club selected as their favorites were: Blake LeBlanc, Devin Barnett, Bailey Jarreau, and William Jewell. Each answered questions posed by Mr. David.

The club then received their February Snap Club Assignment – photos at Mardi Gras celebrations including people, parades, costumes, decorations, etc. and/or trick photography creating some funny, silly, weird, strange, unusual, or trick photos. Mr. David provided examples of some trick photography he had taken and offered the club tips for the assignment.

Before adjourning, the members posed with their photo assignments for a group photo.

The next Snap Club Meeting will be February 7, 2008 at The Cottonport Bank Community Center and the March meeting will be held at the New Roads Branch Library on March 20. Family and friends are invited to the March meeting to hear from guest speaker Clay Coleman – author and photographer.
