(07/03/17) BASTROP, La. — LSU AgCenter scientists will showcase their 2017 sweet potato research demonstration plots at a field day on Aug. 17 in Bastrop.
The event will be held at the Venoy Kinnaird farm, 16388 Old Bonita Road, which is home to the Gallion Potato Company. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and field tours at 9:30 a.m.
Transportation will be provided to the demonstration sites, which will highlight the following topics:
— Sweet potato breeding and evaluating advanced lines for earliness.
— Manipulating slip hold time and planting orientation to optimize plant establishment and yield potential.
— Nematode management.
— Weed management.
In addition, AgCenter experts will provide general industry updates as well as information on disease and insect management and food safety programs.
The program will adjourn at noon followed by a sponsored lunch.
