(This is a part-time grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)
WORK LOCATION: Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: A part-time (50% effort) research associate is sought to support a sweetpotato tissue culture/pathogen therapy and indexing program as part of the Louisiana Center of the National Clean Plant Network - Sweetpotato. Position responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, conducting meristem-tip culture; tissue culture regeneration, maintenance, and micropropagation; and pathogen testing of sweetpotatoes; detection of pathogens in plant tissue with graft indexing and polymerase chain reaction.Responsibilities will also include keeping records of therapy and pathogen testing of numerous sweetpotato accessions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A B.S. degree in plant science or closely related field if combined with at least two years of related work experience.Experience with plant tissue culture and molecular biology methods.Demonstrated ability with aseptic and culture techniques; familiarity with routine software packages; ability to work independently and enjoy the challenge of working in a program with a diverse range of activities and projects; valid Louisiana driver’s license; and ability to successfully work with a culturally diverse team is necessary.Preferred:Demonstrated ability with sweetpotato tissue culture, preparation of sweetpotato culture media, sweetpotato meristem shoot regeneration, grafting, and nucleic acid and virus detection techniques.
