Research Associate

(Field Crops Entomology)

(This is a grant-funded, non-tenure track position. Funding must be available for any continuation of appointment.)

WORK LOCATION: Entomology Department, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

POSITION DESCRIPTION: An agricultural research scientist is needed to conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory studies examining ecology and integrated pest management of sugarcane and rice insects. The position is for a full time Research Associate (RA) in the Department of Entomology at Louisiana State University (Baton Rouge, LA). The RA will be expected to work independently to design experiments, collect and analyze data, and publish and present results. Research activities include, but are not limited to collecting and processing rice and sugarcane samples for insect injury, planting experimental plots, conducting insect biology assays in the greenhouse and laboratory.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Entomology or related field.Experience working in integrated pest management is required. Experience working in rice or sugarcane cultivation preferred. Candidates with a working knowledge of plant resistance to insects and experimental statistics are required. Knowledge of experimental statistics desired. Applicants should be willing and able to perform physical work outdoors. The RA will be based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but work will require frequent travel to research sites on experiment stations and commercial farms throughout south Louisiana. Possession of a valid drivers’ license is required.
