WORK LOCATION: School of Renewable Natural Resources, LSU Ag Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana
POSITION DESCRIPTION: A multi-investigator team based at LSU AgCenter is seeking a Research Associate to undertake research sampling and modeling submerged aquatic vegetation within coastal estuaries in Louisiana.Applicants should have a M.S. in biology, oceanography, resources management or related field and experience, knowledge of submerged aquatic vegetation biology and reproduction, and GIS, mapping and modeling skills.The ideal candidate will have well-developed data management and statistical analyses skills with a background in marine ecology, estuarine ecology and resource management, interest in development of species distribution modeling, spatial analyses and coastal restoration, and the ability to collaborate with an extensive team of state, federal and non-governmental groups. The successful candidate will be involved in several on-going projects building on modeling and mapping of submerged aquatic vegetation in coastal Louisiana.The project involves work with graduate students, as well as state, federal and non-governmental organization collaborators, and the successful candidate will be required to coordinate and communicate findings with all groups.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must hold a MS in biological sciences, natural resources management, or a related field.Applicant must possess experience, and demonstrated (1) ability managing large multi-collaborator field and lab based research projects, (2) experience working with statistical and spatial analysis programs, (3) experience and knowledge of coastal ecology, particularly submerged aquatic vegetation, (4) experience working in the field, driving airboats, mudboats, and collecting field and laboratory data.Ability to work independently, create work plans, meet deadlines, and collaborate critical.
