Work Location: The LSU Agricultural Center is a statewide organization with offices in every parish of Louisiana.The administrative headquarters, including the Human Resource Management Office, are located in Baton Rouge.
About the LSU Agricultural Center:The LSU AgCenter, is one of nine campuses within the broader LSU enterprise (LSU System). The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 “on campus” academic departments and five regions which are made up of 17 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish.For more information, visit the AgCenter’s web site at www.lsuagcenter.com.Administratively aligned with the AgCenter is the LSU A&M campus’s College of Agriculture which oversees the teaching function.While the HRM Office doesn’t have responsibility for the College of Agriculture, many AgCenter faculty hold joint appointments with the College of Agriculture so coordination is important.
Responsibilities: Direct and provide overall coordination for activities related to human resources functions of the LSU Agricultural Center including staffing and employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, performance evaluation, compliance, and onboarding.Additionally, this office provides oversight for international services, HR information systems, HR training, worker’s compensation, selected payroll functions, and other related activities.Duties are performed for academic, unclassified and classified employees; student and contingent employees; and graduate assistants.Provide guidance to and maintain effective communication and working relationships with employees, supervisory personnel, and administrators.Serve as liaison with related state, LSU and higher education agencies and offices.Supervise and provide overall leadership to the HR Office staff.Serve as technical authority on human resources and comparable issues, which may include providing guidance and assistance to the 4-H Youth Development Program on risk management.Regularly review HR policies, procedures and processes for compliance with applicable regulations, comparison with best practices, and effectiveness of internal controls.Develop, recommend and implement changes related to HR functions.Assist with HR aspects of organizational endeavors.Ensure that HR policies and procedures support organizational culture, values, vision, and direction.Develop and implement innovative strategies and initiatives to support overall management within the AgCenter.Direct and operate the office in a manner that allows HR to serve as a strategic partner with managers and administrators, a valued resource for employees, and a partner in facilitating effectiveness and efficiency in overall operations. Perform related duties as assigned.This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Administration.
Qualification Requirements: A baccalaureate degree in human resources, business administration or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience and demonstrated accomplishment in human resource management or a minimum of four years including experience at the supervisor or manager level or higher. Degrees in other fields may be accepted if they included substantially related coursework and/or are combined with extensive related experience. A related master’s degree, HR certification, or other related certifications are desirable. Strongly desire experience in public higher education and understanding of the land grant mission, as well as experience with the Louisiana State Civil Service system. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are essential. Must have in depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws, be able to effectively development and implement policies, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
